Rare Antique Wax Mannequin Large Store Display

  
A mix of creepy and cool describes this unusual antique male haberdashery mannequin. Depending on how you look at this - it is an incredibly lifelike or creepy wax head, with real human hair - both on top of his head as well as eyebrows and eyelashes- and detailed glass eyes, secures onto clothbound body. Arms are articulating and posable- as are the hands as seen in pics. Detailed wax forearms and hands screw onto wooden arms and wooden hands and fingers. Probably replacement some time ago. Mannequin secures to cast iron base. It is likely this mannequin was produced by Frankel Display Fixture Company of New York.

Frankel, for a time, was the exclusive importer of wax figures by the celebrated French artist Pierre Imans, and furnished high end department stores, including Bonwit Teller, with these displays. Wax figures proved extremely sensitive to environment and prone to damage, and thus there are not many surviving examples today, especially outside of existing collections. This new to market example is in fine condition considering its age, with only the most minor of flaws.

There are some slight cracks in the face, but almost unnoticeable- see pictures. The cloth covering the composite body is in pretty good shape but has some tears commensurate with age.
