Antique Vintage 1949 Solid 18ct Rare Rotherhams Half Hunter Trench Style Watch
ANOTHER STUPENDOUS WATCH FIND FROM ANTIQUETIMEONLINE!! A GORGEOUS RARE 1949 15 JEWEL GENUINE QUALITY ROTHERHAM AND SONS OF COVENTRY MID SIZE MANS SOLID 18 CARAT GOLD HALF HUNTER TRENCH/STYLE WATCH IN LOVELY CONDITION WITH A LOVELY HIGH END MOVEMENT. ROTHERHAMS WERE ONE OF THE FEW WATCH HOUSES IN THE UK THAT MANUFACTURED THE CASE AND THE MOVEMENT IN HOUSE. A WERE A TRUE INDEPENDANT WATCH COMPANY. This is an absolutely beautiful 3 piece genuine solid 18 carat English hall marked good quality watch case.
The case is in nice original condition. The case back shows only light and slight wear including a couple of shallow dings which is consummate with its age. The front cover has beautiful blue/black enameled Roman numerals.
It does not spring open and has to be lifted manually. The front cover shows some scratching between the numerals when viewed at a particular angle in the light. The rear of the case is hinged and the hinge is excellent. The wire lugs show no past repairs. The inside of the case is beautifully engraved with R&S (Rotherham & Sons) sponsors mark and full hallmarks for Solid 18 carat gold dating the watch to 1949.The case measures 3.0cms (30mm) across. It is of excellent quality. This is an absolutely stunning lovely original dial. It is FULLY signed'Rotherhams London'.
The dial is in nice condition and is showing one hairline from 9 o'clock to the center. All of the black painted Roman numerals are sharp and crisp.
The dial has a nice black painted outer minute track. The dial has 2 fantastic blued steel hands which look to be in excellent condition, showing just a tiny bit of oxidisation.
The crystal seems to be the glass original and is in very good condition showing only light wear marks. This is a wonderful genuine high grade excellent quality 15 jeweled lever ENGLISH made movement. Rotherham & Sons were one of the top English watch makers at this time and all of the cases and movements were made in house in Coventry UK. They were hand finished and normally looked quite beautiful. This movement is no different. The minty blue and purple steel screws look lovely and there is a gorgeous chequered finish to the top plates. It has a compensated balance and a blued steel overcoiled hairspring. It is FULLY signed with the'Rotherhams London'. This fantastic movement is in good working order, and is running well. It has just been serviced by my watch maker. I have timed it over 24 hours and keeps good time.It is manual wind with pin set to alter the hands. All in all this is a beautiful high quality original movement. The crown is in my opinion absolutely stunning and is gold and looks to be the original'Onion style. This beautiful timepiece is fitted with A fantastic new quality black leather 14mm band. I would estimate that this watch would fit up to an 8 inch wrist.
